This is a truly FEMALE ritual object.
One item for the Mishkan in the desert was made exclusively from mirrors freely donated by the women of the Exodus. Mirrors of the time were highly polished bronze or copper. This item was the “Bronze Sea” or wash bowl at which the priests had to purify themselves before entering the mishkan.
In the description of the remaking of the “Bronze Sea” for Solomon’s temple, we learn that the basin was shaped like a flower and that it sat on the back of twelve bulls facing north, east, south and west in pairs of three.
The brass bull base and stepped copper basin are reflective of the Torah’s description of the “Bronze Sea”.
Cast Brass base, hand raised and hammered Copper basin.
